Chimpanzee Animal
My choice about Chimpanzee animal... 1- What are this animal’s special traits? What does it look like?
- COMMON NAME: chimpanzee, chimp.. CLASS: Mammalia ORDER: Primates FAMILY: Hominidae GENUS SPECIES: Pan (all) troglodytes (cave dwellers)..
Chimpanzee look like, faces are pinkish to black, and the apes' bodies are covered with long black hair. Chimps lack a tail. Their opposable thumbs and toes help them grasp objects easily. Chimpanzees are quadrupedal, which means that they walk on all four limbs, although they can also walk upright (bipedal) for short distances..
2- Where does this animal live?
- Chimpanzees can be found from Southern Senegal across the forested belt north of the Congo River to Western Uganda and Western Tanzania. Gombe National Park in Tanzania is the first park in Africa specifically created for chimpanzees.
3- What does it eat?
- Chimpanzees are omnivores. They rely heavily on a wide variety fruit and leaves, but also eat insects, bark, eggs, nuts, and even hunt monkeys and other small animals for meat.
4- Why is this animal endangered? (Look for “Threats” on your web page.) - Along with bonobos, chimpanzees are our closest living relatives. We share approximately 98% of our DNA with chimps, so it's fair to say that we are 98% chimpanzee, and chimps are 98% human. Chimpanzees are an endangered species.
5- How many exist today?
- Today, there are estimated to be merely 170,000- 300,000 chimpanzees left in ... each other but feed, travel, and sleep in much smaller groups of six or fewer.
